Treatment Programs

The Alert Program:

The Alert Program was developed in order to assist individuals with self-regulation using sensory integration theory. This approach provides children and adults with the tools to change or maintain their level of alertness to better function within the environments in which they interact. The Alert Program uses the analogy of a car engine to relate to the levels of alertness. By providing a child with words, such as high, low, and just right, they can utilize strategies taught through the program to change how alert they are feeling. These strategies involve activities with the mouth, body, hands, eyes, and ears, fully encompassing a multisensory approach to self-regulation. Although this program was initially created for children with learning difficulties and ADHD between ages 8-12, it has now been expanded to include preschool-aged children through adulthood with a variety of disabilities. Please be sure to ask your therapist about purchasing weighted blankets, listening CDs, Interactive Metronome program, thera-Band, and any of the sensori-motor equipment that will facilitate your child’s treatment and well being.
